To all Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails:

Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails now has been active for over one year. In that time we have had regular monthly meetings which resulted in formalization of our organization: Establishment of a board, election of officers, approval of official Bylaws, and incorporation as a Minnesota nonprofit corporation.

We have accomplished a number of improvement projects in the past year. Specific direction for our activities and goals for the coming year are guided by a survey which was recently completed. Trails were the highest priority survey response. We want to be able to continue and expand on the work done to date. The majority of our contributions are, of course, in time volunteered by the Friends Board and members at large. However, any membership dues or contributions we receive will greatly enhance our ability to make a difference in our community.

We need your continuing support -- financial and volunteer -- for our priorities for this year which include:

  1. Raising money and doing volunteer work for our gem of a downtown park -- Lilleskogen -- and for the city's other parks later on.
  2. Expediting construction of the Gateway bike and horse trail from the north side of Wm O'Brien to Hwy 97 (and beyond in future years).
  3. Designating a series of bike and horse trails that will link up with Gateway.
  4. Planning and doing volunteer work at Hay Lake Park in conjunction with the City of Scandia, the City Parks and Rec Committee, the Washington County Historical Society, and the Scandia/Marine Lions.

Annual membership dues are $20.00 per person or family. Dues and confirmation of membership can be sent (along with a copy of the membership form) to:

Please make out your check to Minnesota Parks & Trails Council, a 501C3 non-profit Corporation which is our fiscal agent. Enter "Scandia" on the note line of your check. Payments to a 501C3 are tax deductible.

We thank you for your basic dues contribution of $20 and invite you to make an added contribution to help cover costs of various projects for 2010.

Even if you do not pay dues or make a monetary contribution, kindly print out and send us a completed membership form.
